Thanks to the design of the e-mail system, it is impossible to verify the countenance of a regular message or send secure messages. PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) is an elegant way to do both, but it is both commercial and patent-encumbered. GPG (GNU Privacy Guard) is a fully functional replacement that is distributed under the GNU General Public License.
Refer to the Instant GPG Howto to find out how this works on your operating system.
gpg --import < mkb.asc (Adds my public key to your key ring.)gpg --verify < message.txt (Verifies the message.)Many mail clients can be configured to do this almost transparently by working with GPG. I use GPGMail for Apple's Mail.
