Closed Courses

Director of Graduate Studies

If you wish to register for a closed course, please e-mail the instructor and request a course permission number (needed for registration) from the instructor. Only five such numbers are given out per course. No permission numbers are given for Economics 1101 (Principles of Microeconomics) and 1102 (Principles of Macroeconomics). Students are encouraged to check the online closure information for places that may become available through cancellations.

Course Prerequisites

The department requires that students complete the prerequisites successfully BEFORE taking a course. This applies especially to Econ 3101 and 3102, which are prerequisites for a large number of economics upper division courses. Instructors will ask students to drop courses if prerequisites have not been completed earlier.

Director of Undergraduate Studies

The office of the Director of Undergraduate Studies is also in 4-101 Hanson Hall. If you have a problem that requires special attention, and/or if you feel that your instructor, teaching assistant or undergraduate adviser cannot be helpful, you should e-mail to make an appointment to speak with Professor Simran Sahi or come during her walk-in office hours. If your problem is in the nature of a complaint about a particular course or instructor, we have a very specific complaint procedure that the receptionist can explain to you -- which first involves your filling out one of the Department of Economics complaint forms. These are available at the front desk in the main office.
