The Majors: B.A. - Quantitative

(This major will be phased out starting Spring 2012.
Students cannot sign up for this major after JANUARY 6, 2012.)

The B.A. - Quantitative Emphasis Major adds basic quantitative training (in calculus, linear algebra, and econometrics) to a student’s Economics program. This major should be especially attractive to those students considering graduate work in business administration.

This must be cleared by the DUGS BEFORE taking the class.

6. Senior Project Paper (Econ 3951) - cannot be used to satisfy requirement
Notes:
  • All courses in the Major Requirements section must be taken on an A-F grade basis.
  • Three credits of Independent Study (3991) may be applied toward the major if you fulfill the conditions in the handbook.
  • A grade of C- or better is required in all courses counting towards the major. This policy is strictly enforced. You are expected to have a 2.0 GPA in all major courses in order to graduate.
  • Supporting work in computer science, mathematics and statistics is recommended.
  • Only one country/area study will count towards the major requirements. (Econ 3960 or 4311 or 4313 or 4315)
  • Residency requirement - Transfer students must complete at least 9 of the 12 upper-division (from Section 5) Economics semester credits at UMTC.
  • Students must take at least one Writing Intensive course in Economics, or take Econ 4100W (1 credit) concurrently with Econ 4831 or an Honors course.
  • All Study-Abroad or transfer courses must be approved by the Director of Undergraduate Studies.
