The Majors - B.A.-Quantitative
Department of Economics
Undergraduate Program

 

The B.A. - Quantitative Emphasis Major adds basic quantitative training (in calculus, linear algebra, and econometrics) to a student’s Economics program. This major should be especially attractive to those students considering graduate work in business administration.

A minimum of a C- is required in each preparatory course.

5. Four of the following upper division courses (no non-major courses) (12 credits total):

One course of the four above may be selected from Acct 5100 ApEc 4821
or from selected 5xxx level ApEcon courses. This must be cleared by the DUGS before taking the course.

6. Senior Project Paper (Econ 3951) - cannot be used to satisfy requirement 5.

Notes

  • All courses in the Major Requirements section must be taken on an A-F grade basis.
  • Three credits of Independent Study (3991) may be applied toward the major if you fulfill the conditions in the handbook.
  • A grade of C- or better is required in all courses counting towards the major. This policy is strictly enforced. You are expected to have a 2.0 GPA in all major courses in order to graduate.
  • Supporting work in computer science, mathematics and statistics is recommended.
  • Only one country/area study will count towards the major requirements. (Econ 3960 or 4311 or 4313 or 4315)
  • Residency requirement - Transfer students must complete at least 9 of the 12 (from section 5) Economics semester credits at UMTC.
  • Students must take at least one Writing Intensive course in Economics, or take Econ 4100W (1 credit) concurrently with Econ 4831 or an Honors course.
  • All Study-Abroad or transfer courses must be approved by the Director of Undergraduate Studies.
