We invite students from other departments to take Economics courses. As an introductory course we recommend Economics 1101 (Principles of Microeconomics), which is concerned with economic decision-making on the part of firms and individuals, and as a sequel, Economics 1102 (Principles of Macroeconomics), which covers topics of national importance such as unemployment, inflation, and economic growth. Prerequisites for Econ 1101 are knowledge of plane geometry and intermediate algebra. Economics 1101 is a prerequisite for Economics 1102.

We offer some non major courses with Econ 1101 and 1102 as prerequisites:

3701: Money and Banking
3801: Public Economics
3031: American Economic Problems
3033: Current Economic Issues
3041: The Prospective World Economy
3611: Environmental Economics
4301: Economic Development
4307: Comparative Economic Systems
4401: International Economics

There are several other courses open both to non-majors and Economics majors, with only Economics 1101 and 1102 as prerequisites:

4031: American Economic Problems
4033: Current Economic Issues
4041: The Prospective World Economy
4021: Economics, Ethics, and Economic Philosophy
4311: The Latin American Economy
4313: The Russian Economy
4315: The Japanaese Economy

All non major students (particularly minors or B.I.S. students with a concentration in Economics) can take any courses which are targeted primarily for our majors. (Note that students cannot receive credit for both a course for non-majors and a course for majors on the same topic, e.g. 3801 and 4821.)
