Information about JSTOR

JSTOR is an archiving service with a number of economics journals contained in it. Is is NOT a current issues database, nor a comprehensive index like EconLit. You can do full-text searching within it -- either for all the journals or a subset, such as economics (the list of economics titles can be found at Economics.) JSTOR is a good resource, however, for finding older articles written prior to 1969 (when the coverage in EconLit begins). This was also the time before the explosion of economics sub-discipline journals, and the majority of articles were in journals like AER, JPE, Restud, etc., which are archived in JSTOR.

Most of the economics titles in JSTOR are journals currently (or at one time) published by university presses or societies. Journals published by Springer or Elsevier and other for-profit publishers are NOT in JSTOR and will likely never be. Those publishers have their own archiving services -- such as SpringerLink and ScienceDirect. Because JSTOR is an archive, there is a delay from 1-5 years between the most recent issues and the available back issues. This is called the "moving wall." Please check the Journals page for links to economics journals in JSTOR (the archived issues) as well as the most recent electronic versions (provided by publishers).
